It was good to see my friends come along.&rdquo;&nbsp;<br /></div>  <div class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><font color="#508d24" size="4"><strong>&#8203; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &lsquo;Very proud of what we accomplished&rsquo;</strong></font><br /></div>  <div class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Students Megha and Juhi enjoyed the responsibility of leading the art workshops with their friends and were proud of their group&rsquo;s achievement and commitment.<br /><br />Megha, 15, said: &ldquo;It was brilliant to have led the art workshops; we had a wonderful time and feel very proud of what we accomplished.&rdquo;<br /><br />Juhi, 14, added: &ldquo;I believe the art project was a great opportunity for kids to showcase their talents and express their creative side. It was really nice having that time to socialise and hang out with the children as well as our friends. Hope to have more opportunities like this again!"</span><br /><br /><span>Anjali Kumar, 15, added: "Working with children was fun and exciting experience as we got to develop friendship with them and were able to join in with the arts and crafts. We learned how to organise a youth club and how to handle different situations."<br /></span><br />&#8203; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<font size="4"><strong><font color="#508d24">We do hope to re-start this amazing project in September &ndash; so watch this space!</font></strong></font><br /><br /><span>On behalf of Heston West Big Local we would like to say a BIG thank you to the group of students. We are delighted to announce that 14 new projects have been awarded Community Chest funding. These projects aim to improve the lives of local residents by bringing people together to learn new skills, gain new experiences and make new friends. Below are the successful projects that will be commencing within the next few months. Please let us know what you think and if you or somebody you know might be interested in getting involved.<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Cricket Training:</strong><br />12 week Cricket Training sessions aimed at young people (11-16yrs). Project will be led by a student and will be held at Cranford Community College.<br /><strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;500<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Flower Arranging:</strong><br />Local residents will learn the art of flower arranging at the Brabazon Community Centre. The sessions will be delivered by Heston Florist. At the end of the project &ndash; residents will have the opportunity to display and sell flowers at one of our summer events. &nbsp;<br /><strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;500<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Freestyle Singing:</strong><br />A local resident will deliver freestyle singing sessions aimed at local women. The sessions will enable participants to build confidence, learn different vocal/singing methods and meet new friends in a safe learning environment.<br /><strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;480<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>The Welcome Club:</strong><br />The Welcome Club has been functioning for over 25 years. They would like transport support to help local members attend their Monday Activity Social Club. The group&rsquo;s participants are elderly and disabled and at present are struggling to attend these sessions held at the Globe at Cranford Community College. The transport will enable more group members to attend and also encourage new members to get involved without the worry of using public transport/walking long distances. <strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;472<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Island Hopperz:</strong><br />This is dance classes for young people (11-18yrs). The style of Island Hop dance is a mix of technical, hip-hop and Caribbean dance styles. The classes will run for 10 weeks.<br /><strong>Awarded</strong>: &pound;395<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Soca and Dance Hall Fitness:</strong><br />This is an exercise to music class for women (18yrs+). This classes use Soca, dancehall and African based music. The class content is dance based with functional and aerobic training. <strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;310<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Art club (6-10 years):</strong><br />Sessions will be led by students at Cranford Community College. The sessions are aimed at young children (6-10 years). Children will be given the opportunity to express themselves freely through art in a safe &amp; friendly environment.&nbsp; Sessions to be held at Berkeley Primary School.&nbsp;<br /><strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;290<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Walking Football:</strong><br />Walking Football, a slow-paced version of football and is aimed at getting residents back involved in the sport. The sessions are aimed at (but not limited to) over 50s, those coming back from injury and those with lack of mobility. Sessions led by students at Cranford Community College. Sessions will run for 4 weeks.<br /><strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;350<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Healthy Food Awareness Stand:</strong><br />Healthy food stands will be displayed outside the school and college during June. The project aims to encourage parents, children and college students to try out healthy snacks prepared by students. People will also be given a recipe leaflet which will include the list of ingredients and method used to make the healthy snack. Project will run for 4 weeks. <strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;320<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Bike Workshop:</strong><br />The Bike workshop will encourage local people to bring their bikes in for a bike check up and also learn how to put a bike together. Sessions are aimed at bike owners (11+). Sessions will run for 4 weeks. <strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;390<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Speed Meeting (Over 65yrs)</strong><br />Speed Meeting session for older residents (65yrs+) to help them connect with others, make new friends and have fun. The idea is quite similar to &lsquo;speed dating&rsquo; where each person will get the opportunity to speak with somebody new for 3 minutes. Sessions led by a group of students and will be held at Cranford Community College on a weekend morning. Sessions will run for 2 weeks. <strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;150<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Blind Football Sessions:</strong><br />Blind Football sessions (11-16yrs) will take place at Cranford Community College during the summer. These sessions are aimed for those who are visual impaired or partially sighted but also open for young people to learn about the sport in a safe, inclusive and fun environment. Project organised by students at Three Bridges. Sessions will run for 4 weeks. <strong>Awarded:</strong> &pound;380 &nbsp;<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong>Mentoring Film Project:</strong><br />This project will encourage young people to express themselves through film by discussing their dreams and goals for the future and how they believe being mentored will help them along their journey. The film will be promoted to local businesses and organisations at Film launch event in the summer. Through this project we hope local businesses will feel engaged, inspired and be able to offer a few hours of mentoring to our youth.
