Our Big Local Youth Film Club is a community filmmaking project designed for young people living and studying in and around our Big Local area. The project is in collaboration with Kulbir Maras, Arfhan Razak and Layba Nisar. During the sessions young people learn the art of filmmaking and community work. In the last 7 years our young people have been involved with making documentaries, short films, music videos and community related content. The project is one of Heston West Big Local's key legacies and was previously led by experienced filmmaker Blaise Singh.

The sessions are an opportunity for young people to learn leadership, communication and creative skills in a safe, friendly, fun environment. Although the project is aimed at young people we also have had parents and film experts volunteer their time to support the project and help our young crew. Getting involved with our project, young people will have unique access to the film industry, an opportunity to network, visit film studios and festivals and also get involved with other exciting Big Local projects aimed to help our young people gain new skills and work experience.

"Young people get the opportunity to explore and learn new and exciting things while creating amazing videos for the world to see. It is not only a place of learning but also a place to have fun, create friendships and discover things we may have never seen before and let our imagination run wild.

Being here has helped me to grow my confidence and do things I could never imagine myself doing such as going out and interviewing people and being in front of the camera without being scared for my life.
Being here has also helped me to make great friends with people who I may have never approached before and I have developed skills that will later help me in life. Overall I think coming here was one of the best things I could've done."

"The MADE in HESTON film club has helped me realise that there is more in life for those who take the opportunity to do things. What I enjoyed the most was the recent fall prevention project working with local GPs."

Cammeron Jones, 12 yrs old

"My favourite part of film-making is the camerawork itself, e.g. using Manual mode, altering settings to improve the look of my filming, and overall taking more control over the camera and getting out of the habit of always using Auto mode."

Haroon Lukka, 13 yrs old

I am new here, I didn't have a courage of facing people, coming in front of the camera and I never knew the term called editing, but thanks to the filming club, I have a courage of being in front of the camera and having a YouTube channel 'Shaz Creation'.
The film club teaches you a lot of useful techniques, editing, interviewing and it is helping us with our future. The best thing about the sessions is that we make films, we have different roles, you even get to pick the roles and come up with ideas. If you are interested in media, editing, acting or being in front/back of the camera, this is the right place to go. Please join us.
