Community Chest

New Community-led activities coming your way!

Great news! We are delighted to announce that 14 new projects have been awarded Community Chest funding. These projects aim to improve the lives of local residents by bringing people together to learn new skills, gain new experiences and make new friends. Below are the successful projects that will be commencing within the next few months. Please let us know what you think and if you or somebody you know might be interested in getting involved.
 
Cricket Training:
12 week Cricket Training sessions aimed at young people (11-16yrs). Project will be led by a student and will be held at Cranford Community College.
Awarded: £500
 
Flower Arranging:
Local residents will learn the art of flower arranging at the Brabazon Community Centre. The sessions will be delivered by Heston Florist. At the end of the project – residents will have the opportunity to display and sell flowers at one of our summer events.  
Awarded: £500
 
Freestyle Singing:
A local resident will deliver freestyle singing sessions aimed at local women. The sessions will enable participants to build confidence, learn different vocal/singing methods and meet new friends in a safe learning environment.
Awarded: £480
 
The Welcome Club:
The Welcome Club has been functioning for over 25 years. They would like transport support to help local members attend their Monday Activity Social Club. The group’s participants are elderly and disabled and at present are struggling to attend these sessions held at the Globe at Cranford Community College. The transport will enable more group members to attend and also encourage new members to get involved without the worry of using public transport/walking long distances. Awarded: £472
 
Island Hopperz:
This is dance classes for young people (11-18yrs). The style of Island Hop dance is a mix of technical, hip-hop and Caribbean dance styles. The classes will run for 10 weeks.
Awarded: £395
 
Soca and Dance Hall Fitness:
This is an exercise to music class for women (18yrs+). This classes use Soca, dancehall and African based music. The class content is dance based with functional and aerobic training. Awarded: £310
 
Art club (6-10 years):
Sessions will be led by students at Cranford Community College. The sessions are aimed at young children (6-10 years). Children will be given the opportunity to express themselves freely through art in a safe & friendly environment.  Sessions to be held at Berkeley Primary School. 
Awarded: £290
 
Walking Football:
Walking Football, a slow-paced version of football and is aimed at getting residents back involved in the sport. The sessions are aimed at (but not limited to) over 50s, those coming back from injury and those with lack of mobility. Sessions led by students at Cranford Community College. Sessions will run for 4 weeks.
Awarded: £350
 
Healthy Food Awareness Stand:
Healthy food stands will be displayed outside the school and college during June. The project aims to encourage parents, children and college students to try out healthy snacks prepared by students. People will also be given a recipe leaflet which will include the list of ingredients and method used to make the healthy snack. Project will run for 4 weeks. Awarded: £320
 
Bike Workshop:
The Bike workshop will encourage local people to bring their bikes in for a bike check up and also learn how to put a bike together. Sessions are aimed at bike owners (11+). Sessions will run for 4 weeks. Awarded: £390
 
Speed Meeting (Over 65yrs)
Speed Meeting session for older residents (65yrs+) to help them connect with others, make new friends and have fun. The idea is quite similar to ‘speed dating’ where each person will get the opportunity to speak with somebody new for 3 minutes. Sessions led by a group of students and will be held at Cranford Community College on a weekend morning. Sessions will run for 2 weeks. Awarded: £150
 
Blind Football Sessions:
Blind Football sessions (11-16yrs) will take place at Cranford Community College during the summer. These sessions are aimed for those who are visual impaired or partially sighted but also open for young people to learn about the sport in a safe, inclusive and fun environment. Project organised by students at Three Bridges. Sessions will run for 4 weeks. Awarded: £380  
 
Mentoring Film Project:
This project will encourage young people to express themselves through film by discussing their dreams and goals for the future and how they believe being mentored will help them along their journey. The film will be promoted to local businesses and organisations at Film launch event in the summer. Through this project we hope local businesses will feel engaged, inspired and be able to offer a few hours of mentoring to our youth. The project will be led by students from Cranford Community College. Awarded: £370
 
Outdoor Play Sessions:
London Play will deliver 2 Outdoor play sessions at the Brabazon Community Centre and a further 2 at Redwood Estate.  These sessions are aimed at young children and will run for 4 weeks. Awarded: £440

    We have launched our Heston West Community Chest grant programme.  This is an exciting opportunity to apply for a grant up to £500 to help improve the life of local residents
