Week 4: Heston & Cranford Poetry

6/10/2016

By Lucy Tirahan
It's amazing to see the club growing and to sit back and looks at pieces which have been created over a month. This week there was one simple task, I asked the students what makes Heston/Cranford, and to formulate their ideas in a poem. I chose this task as the area is often labelled 'deprived' whereas I know the students would have many great things to say about it; it is also testament to the incredible opportunities Heston West Big Local provide for the community.

The Community

Like one big family we look after each other,
We treat all like sister and brother.
We come together and have some fun,
No matter in rain, sleet or even the sun.
We are all united even the quiet and vocal,
Welcome to our Heston West Big Local.

Manav

Helping each other,
Educating children,
Scintillating crowd of locals,
Teams of trustworthy folks,
Organised great adventures for mankind all around,
Network of developers,

&

Cranford,
Rules!
Amazing action!
Noise,
Friends,
Or,
Rare,
Dedicated friends you and I ,
We work as communities-together!
We work as friends-together!
We work as a big friendly local area!
The big local area!

Cranford is really awesome:
It supports autistic children
It helps us learn from mistakes
Leading us like a lake
Through all the troubles and mistakes
Cranford is really cool:
It has long fields for us all
It has funny teachers and cake
Baking fun things for me and you
Cakes for our tummy’s too
Cranford is really strong:
It holds us together like one
Its mistakes in the past
The future in our grasp
It’s a difficulty to say goodbye all the same

WE ARE ALL UNITED; through times easy or hard
With teachers by our side like our bodyguards.

WE ARE SOLDIERS and we fight together
And we are always united whatever the weather.
One of our classmates unfortunately had to depart,
But we will stick together like we did from the start.

WE ARE ALL EQUAL; we all wear the same outfit every day,
Our uniform helps us take pride in what we do and say.
They say our school is really bad,
But actually, that doesn’t make us sad.
We know our school is ‘outstanding’
Do they really think they can knock us down while we are standing?

WE ARE BRAVE; we stick up for what is right,
We will not go down without a fight.

WE ARE CRANFORD; ONE OF THE BEST SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTRY,
SO THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU JUDGE ME.

What I love about Heston West
Morning to the evening we're the best
Walking Football, Creative Writing and clearing up the streets
Shooting the film and listening to the beats
Trying to get our unique sound
With my feet on the ground
Brabazon, Harlech and Redwood
So many choices it feels so good
I look above I see a plane
Flying past me they all look the same
All our hard working volunteers who are so vocal
We thank them all and the Big Local

We all try to aim to reach the heights for the Big Local

There’s a reason we are a community
And I think you’d like to know
That behind those gates, there’s children who yearn!
We are showered with facilities
That maybe no one could dream to have
With past experiences to learn from
The best we’ve ever had!
Now, the super dome is not to be underestimated
And our football skills are the best rated
And obviously for rugby
You may think our skills are really cruddy
But you know that doesn’t matter
When we win matches you’ll actually shatter!
Well, there’s a reason behind this reputation,
That we have proudly built.
So, after praising the children
Make a tribute to the teachers
We are Cranford; get ready to be to be bewildered with awe.

Ayesha

Cranford has a history
A long time ago
When world war one roamed
One hundred years ago

A time, a place
Outside the gates
Chamberlain made his speech
One hundred years ago

Several years have gone
Everything has changed
And now we are united
Together as a community!

Fatima

Cutting edge technology only for the best school around
Research to be found
Astonishing students
New and old
Focus is the key to all students’ success
Only the greatest accepted
Ready to tackle all challenges to be faced
Destined for greatness

    MEET LUCY

    Our Creative Writing Teacher

       I'm a student in year 12
who is passionate about writing and hopes to become successful in the industry when I'm older.

I am lucky to have been provided with many opportunities throughout school to explore this skill and take it further. Writing is often seen as an unstable career but many people have inspired me to stay committed to something I love and to keep my drive, purely because it is with drive and dedication that you can overcome what is deemed impossible.

I wanted to do something which would inspire younger years to take up creative writing, as I truly believe it is an art that can help you develop many skills and force you to think outside the ordinary.

I also believe that younger people have not been provided with a sufficient platform to make themselves heard, this blog is an alternative platform. I now run a creative writing club with Heston West Big Local once a week where I work with students aged 11-14 on creative writing pieces.

They are all incredibly talented and each individual manages to write from a unique perspective. Each week we will upload their work, I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy working with them.
