Last summer Heston West Big Local’s MADE in HESTON WEST Youth Film Production Club teamed up with London Borough of Hounslow’s Community Partnership Unit team to develop the "Hard to Reach" documentary. We engaged with young people across the borough to hear their views and to have their voice heard by the leaders and staff of Hounslow but also our residents.

​Our team of young volunteers asked these three questions:

• What are your hopes?
• What are your fears?
• What would you like to tell the leader of the council?

​On Friday 21st February 2020, we were invited by London Borough of Hounslow to the launch of our documentary at Hounslow House. We were joined by several councillors including, Steve Curran (Leader of the Council), Lily Bath (Heston West Ward and Deputy Leader),  Katherine Dunne (Communities and Climate Emergency), Guy Lambert (Highways, Recycling and Companies) and Hanif Khan (Transport and Corporate Property). The Mayor of Hounslow, Tony Louki and Feltham and Heston MP Seema Malhotra were also in attendance. 

Big Local Youth volunteer and Film Club member Serena Lola delivered a short speech about the documentary project which was followed by the official screening and then a panel discussion with Youth Board Rep, Layba Nisar and Taz Virdee. The film was well received by the council leaders and they have agreed to take action on the suggestions of the young people in our borough. Overall, it was a positive experience for our Big Local volunteers and participants and we are extremely proud to have been given this opportunity to make this film with the London Borough of Hounslow.

During February half-term, the community got together to help transform the ordinary into the extraordinary by installing our latest Big Local flowerbed on Cranford High Street, opposite Cranford Community College. In the last year, we designed and developed the Redwood Allotment and also the ‘Welcome to Heston West’ flowerbed by Harlech Gardens, Cranford Lane. This time we joined forces once again with Sharnjeet Bhalla at Sunshine of Hounslow to create our newest addition the community, the project was funded by London Borough of Hounslow’s CIL grant. 

We engaged with several families, students from Cranford Community College and members of our Big Local Youth Action Team to help transform this space. We are planning to officially open the flowerbed on Saturday 18th April 2020 with our Mayor of Heston West, Callum Wills. 

​We are looking forward to the flowers blossoming over the next few weeks and we would like to thank all our amazing volunteers, families, Cranford Community College, Sunshine of Hounslow and London Borough of Hounslow for their incredible support. Watch this space!

Sadly our planned Valentines Community Clean Up Day for Sunday 16th February has been postponed due to the predicted heavy gusts and rain. We will be rescheduling for Sunday 8th March 2020. More information coming shortly.
