By Taz Virdee Monday 12th February 2018 - Members from our Big Local Youth Action Team and volunteers brought joy to our community during the half-term break in February in our first community clean up for 2018. We used this opportunity to also knock on doors to promote our Big Local Spring activities and spread the love by giving roses to residents to mark Valentines Day. An amazing 37 volunteers gave up their time to clear the streets of Redwood and Brabazon. We were kindly supported by Caroline Baxter and Karl Thomas from the Heston West Metropolitan Police and Hounslow Highways who provided us with the equipment. We split our Heston West team into three – one team responsible for the clean up, another team for giving out the Valentine roses and also a team to hand out our booklets. Together we handed out 140 roses, delivered 700 booklets and collected 9 bags full of rubbish. Juhi Kumra, 16yrs old, a Youth Action Team member said: “It was wonderful to see the smiles on people’s faces when we gave out the roses. One lady said we made her day, this made me feel really good. I’m proud of everyone’s effort today.” We would like to thank all our dedicated, wonderful and passionate volunteers for helping us make a massive difference to the community and bringing smiles to our residents. We also like to thank Caroline and Karl from the Metropolitan Police, Cranford Community College and Hounslow Highways for their brilliant support.
